ABOUT ROMAN
Joshua Ke’Vonne Stewart, professionally known as Roman The Writer or Roman Svengali, is an alternative hip hop musician based in Dallas, Texas.
Inspired by pop, rock, jazz, folk, and electronic music, Roman has spent years creating unique bodies of work that push boundaries and destroy the monolith that hip hop tends to be viewed as, exploring various themes such as identity, cockiness, love, frustration, heartbreak, and many more.
Growing up in a family and environment with very little musical influence, Roman’s earliest memories of music involve playing the keyboard alone in his room and in the band in church at around age 7 and writing raps during class at age 11.
It was much more of a fun little hobby until age 13 where Roman began recording music on his cell phone in video editing apps and releasing them on YouTube. He released his first EP I, The Written Introduction in 2017. In the fall of 2018, he completed his first full body of work entitled Spells Of The Sea Mixtape full of house and seapunk influences supporting a magic mermaid tale.
On Christmas of 2020, Roman The Writer released his first album Monsieur Onze LP onto various streaming platforms; a 22 track hip hop exploration of the more boastful and conceited side of rap. This was followed by two serial electronic EPs, darker and stranger in nature, birthed by a departure from a very toxic relationship.
This toxicity needed to be washed away and was done successfully by Roman’s sophomore album Ke'Vonne LP, a sunny and colorful project that shows Roman falling back in love with music and building himself back up again. This album starts off with a powerful song discussing religion and equality entitled Adam's Ale, which found its way to Japan’s Spotify and was greeted with great reviews.
Roman's third studio album album THE MUSICIAN OF SPACE pt. i: YVES KLEIN. is the first of two installments exploring the similarities and inevitabilities of love and death. YVES KLEIN. specifically is an introspective jazz rap album that creates parallels between the late titular artist Yves Klein’s artworks and Roman’s feelings about mortality and interpersonal connection.
Over the years, Roman The Writer has studied music heavily; absorbing many different genres of music and expanding his knowledge of music theory as an ongoing journey to become a more proficient producer and songwriter for other artists, such as Gregory, Katy Day, and Manii
Roman has also been able to translate his diverse discography to the stage by headlining shows at the Tiny Stage at bee Hippy and the Limbo Room, creating a unique sensory experience for his audience.
